Residents will soon be able to use their smartphone to report issues such as graffiti, potholes and downed trees to City of Richmond staff via a new app that’s being developed.
At its Tuesday meeting, City Council will hear a presentation on the new application for Android or IOS devices, which is expected to launch in January, said Sue Hartman, the city’s information technology director.
The app’s primary function is to allow residents to easily report potholes, graffiti, abandoned vehicles and other examples of blight to city staff, and to track city staff’s response to such issues, Hartman told us Monday.
Residents can attach and send photos and write notices directly to city staff through the app. They can also tap other features including City Hall contacts, calendar, park locations, recreation, the weather and a business directory with more than 110 restaurants and grocery and food stores.
The app, developed by the city’s existing community development software vendor CRW, is already fully funded and will work in conjunction with the public reporting tool on the city’s website. Hartman said.
The app is currently being tested internally and will soon be presented to neighborhood councils. In December, several community volunteers (including the Richmond Standard) have been asked to test the app before the expected January launch. We will let you know how it works!
