Masked men tie up Point Richmond pharmacy employees, steal drugs

Three masked men tied up employees at a Point Richmond pharmacy Friday afternoon before making off with drugs such as OxyContin, oxycodone, and oxymorphone, police said.

The men walked into Point Pharmacy at 139 W. Richmond Ave. at 1:20 p.m., approached the front counter and forced the pharmacist and pharmacy technician to the ground and bound their hands, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

It was unclear if the suspects were armed. While two suspects held down the employees, the other robbed drugs. A UPS worker who showed up at the door mid-heist was also held hostage, Abetkov said.

A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.

The same pharmacy was also robbed July 9, the West County Times reported.

Abetkov said pharmacy robberies are on the rise due to the rising popularity of pharmaceutical drugs.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Det. Dan Wellhausen at (510) 620-6860 or the anonymous tip line at (510) 232-TIPS (8477).
