A 27-year-old man accused of driving under the influence of methadone and marijuana crashed into a PG&E powerbox in the Marina Bay neighborhood on Sunday, knocking out power in the area for more than three hours, police said.
A neighbor called police about 11:45 a.m. to report that a white SUV had crashed in the area of Marina Bay Parkway and Breakers Boulevard, police spokesperson Nicole Abetkov said.
No one was injured as the result of the crash. The driver, whose identity wasn’t immediately available, admitted to police he had taken methadone and marijuana within a couple hours before the incident, Abetkov said. He also failed sobriety tests.
The driver lives in the area and had been on probation for a prior DUI arrest.
In the latest incident, he smashed into one of the larger power boxes and “is lucky he didn’t get electrocuted,” Abetkov said.
