A 31-year-old San Pablo man is accused of attempting to rape a 39-year-old hiker at Wildcat Canyon Regional Park in Richmond Monday and was linked to at least one previous park attack, according to the East Bay Regional Park District.

The woman was grabbed and thrown to the ground by an attacker on a trail about 5:15  p.m., park police said. The woman fought as the attacker attempted to drag her into bushes and successfully scared off the suspect.

After a ground and aerial search, authorities located San Pablo resident Julio Rodriguez, who matched the description of a suspect in an earlier attack at the park. Rodriguez had an outstanding felony arrest warrant and is in custody on attempted rape, kidnapping and false imprisonment charges, EBRPD police said.

Authorities are asking the public who may have spotted Rodriguez in the park to call (510) 881-1833.
