Parents and guardians of local junior high school students are encouraged to attend a free parenting workshop Tuesday night at Salesian College Preparatory with psychotherapist David Franklin.

The workshop, “Teen Realities: Understanding Kids in a Changing World,” will run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria at Salesian, located at 2851 Salesian Ave. in Richmond.

Franklin is a psychotherapist in Lafayette specializing in adolescent issues and has been Salesian’s school counselor for 19 years.

At Tuesday’s workshop, parents and guardians will learn what to pay attention to while parenting a teen, how to know if a child is doing something they don’t approve of, warning signs to pay attention to and what teens want or don’t want their parents to know.

There will be plenty of time for parents and guardians to ask questions, organizers said.
