One person was shot in the leg and another beaten during a robbery in El Cerrito Thursday, police said.

The incident unfolded just after 8 p.m., when Richmond police received a call about a gunshot in the area just north of the intersection of Key Boulevard and Humboldt Avenue. A Richmond cop who was near San Pablo Avenue also heard the shot and responded.

Responding officers found the gunshot victim in front of the Grocery Outlet, just north of the where the shooting was reported, police said.

The second victim was found near the Baxter Creek area and the BART Path.

The victims told police they do not know each other and were walking several feet apart when one was approached by at least two robbers. The victim was shot in the leg after attempting to fight off the robbers, police said, while the second victim was beaten and robbed of property.

Both victims suffered injuries not considered life threatening.

The suspects were described as mixed race adult males, approximately 5’7” to 5’10” with medium builds, police said.

“Both suspects ran east and entered a dark, medium size vehicle and fled the scene,” police said.

The El Cerrito Police Department is investigating the incident.
