A 64-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in El Cerrito Saturday after his vehicle struck a pedestrian on San Pablo Avenue.

The collision occurred about 8 p.m. at the intersection of Portola Drive, police said. The pedestrian was transported by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center for treatment. The pedestrian’s condition wasn’t immediately known.

The driver, identified as Michael Didier, displayed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol, police said, and was arrested on DUI charges following an investigation. Didier was subsequently transported to the County Jail in Martinez.
