Demar Lincoln, the wildly successful head coach of the Richmond Steelers Midget Football Team, is set to be honored by the City of Richmond at Tuesday’s council meeting.

After 18 years as a youth football coach, Lincoln not only knows how to win but is a mentor to the kids who play for him.

Over the past seven years, the Richmond Steelers have earned a trip to the national championship game, winning four of them, according to the city. In 2011, Lincoln coached his team to a perfect 19-0 season.

City leaders said Lincoln’s “exceptional devotion to the youth and the Richmond community is inspiring,” and that he is “the true definition of a community mentor.”

Mayor Gayle McLaughlin and Councilmember Jael Myrick are scheduled to honor Lincoln with a Certificate of Recognition at Tuesday’s council hearing.
