Isaac Lappert of Lappert’s Ice Cream wins award for best marijuana edible


A member of the family that owns Richmond-based Lappert’s Ice Cream won an award last weekend for creating a delicious marijuana-infused edible.

Isaac Lappert, vice president of Lappert’s Corporate and a Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef, separately operates Cannabis Creamery, which infuses ice creams, yogurts and sorbets with marijuana to benefit patients.

The nonprofit created a mint chip marijuana edible that won best dessert edible at the recent HempCon Kush Cup at the NOS Event Center in San Bernardino.

A writer for, the marijuana-themed website that first reported Isaac Lappert’s victory, called the mint chip treat “the best medicated ice cream this edible lover has ever consumed” and the “most popular edible at the festival.”

“Lappert has a dream to open the country’s first medicated-only ice cream parlor,” added.

We’ve called Isaac Lappert seeking more information about Cannabis Creamery, which describes itself as a nonprofit medical marijuana collective that intends to deliver its products to patients.

According to the marijuana venture’s Facebook page, the creation of Cannabis Creamery was inspired years ago when the Lapperts were asked by the Grateful Dead to make a “special flavor” of ice cream for a big party.

Isaac Lappert’s grandfather, Walter, opened Lappert’s Ice Cream in Kaua’i in 1983, and his son, Michael, the current mayor of Corte Madera, opened a manufacturing facility in California in 1984.

Last year, Isaac Lappert used his own savings to open a Lappert’s store in Corte Madera.
