El Cerrito police are hunting for armed robbers who struck a cash advance business on San Pablo Avenue Wednesday.

Police responded to a silent alarm just before 11 a.m. at the Advance America at 10003 San Pablo Ave. and discovered an armed robbery had occurred, but the suspects had already fled.

An employee said he buzzed in one of the suspects who came to the door, but then that suspect held the door open for a second suspect. While the first suspect acted as a lookout, the second suspect jumped over the counter, produced a semi-automatic pistol and pointed it at the lone employee, police said.

He robbed the employee of an untold amount of cash at gunpoint, then fled with the other suspect in a nearby vehicle, described as a late model red Jeep Cherokee with yellow paper plates. The vehicle was last seen on Carlson Boulevard near Fairmount Street.

Surveillance cameras at a nearby business recorded the getaway, police said. The first suspect was described in his 20s or 30s, slender, about 6-foot-1 wearing a windbreaker, red or orange pants and a Raiders hat.

The armed suspect was described as a black man in his 30s, about 5-foot-8, wearing a black or grey mask covering most of his face and black gloves. He had a black hoodie and jeans, police added.
