Here’s a wonderful example of gifts that keep giving.
On Monday, Keenan and Associates, California’s largest privately-owned insurance brokerage and consulting firm, announced Richmond-based Bay Area Rescue Mission as a beneficiary of the company’s expanded Impact Day community involvement program.
That Keenan chose the nonprofit may have had something to do with an inspiring experience at its Oakland office during last year’s holiday season.
At the time, employees in the Oakland office decided to move away from their usual holiday collection jars and food drives by becoming more hands on with their giving. They found out about the Bay Area Rescue Mission’s hygiene kit drive and sprung into action. Nearly all 40 members of the office banded together to assemble 115 hygiene kits for the nonprofit’s clients.
The nonprofit said the donation went a long way to help people in need. Meanwhile, Keenen employees called the experience fun, personally-rewarding and a total success.
The company apparently wants to do it again, announcing Monday that a charitable Impact Day program it held among its Southern California offices has been expanded this year to Northern California.
On Oct. 8, which is Impact Day, nearly 200 of Keenan’s 675 Northern California employees are expected at the South San Francisco Conference Center. From noon to 3:30 p.m., the employees will assemble a wide range of donated goods in conjunction with the company’s annual meeting.
The goods, including boxed lunches, toiletry kits, backpacks and teacher kits, will benefit Bay Area Rescue Mission of Richmond, Bay Area Crisis Nursery of Concord, Fred Finch Youth Center of Oakland and San Mateo County school districts.
“To see a ballroom full of people having so much fun and gaining so much satisfaction from making a difference in people’s lives is truly a memorable experience,” Keenan President and CEO Sean Smith said in a statement.
