Rather than attempting the elusive hole-in-one, golfers should consider swinging for scholarships.

The 15th Annual Sy and Beverly Zell Golf Tournament is set to take place Sept. 29, and golfers, particularly foursomes, are encouraged to sign up. And if you’re thinking that you might wait till next year to participate, know that the Zell family recently announced that this is will be the last tournament they will host.

The event is the Contra Costa College Foundation’s largest fundraiser and contributes to its efforts to fund scholarships for local students and other programs.

The tournament, which will be held in honor of former San Pablo Mayor Joe Gomes, will take place at the Mira Vista Golf and Country Club at 7901 Cutting Blvd. in El Cerrito.
