A 43-year-old San Pablo man is in critical condition after he was shot multiple times  in the 2200 block of Ohio Avenue in Richmond Thursday night, police said.

Officers responded to ShotSpotter activations about 10:05 p.m. and found the man, who hasn’t been identified, suffering from gunshot wounds, Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill said.

The victim was transported to John Muir Medical Center, where he underwent surgery but remains in critical condition, Hill said.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victim was walking westbound down Ohio Avenue when a silver vehicle drove past in the same direction and a passenger hopped out. A confrontation ensued and the passenger opened fire on the victim before returning to the vehicle and fleeing, Hill said.

No arrests have been made.
