Nine Chinese students are adjusting to academic and social life in the U.S. as they settle into Salesian College Preparatory’s brand new International Student Program.

The program enables qualified high school students from abroad to study on Salesian’s campus in Richmond with their American peers.

The students, who are staying with Salesian families, come from Foshan, Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhengzhou and are in the 9th, 10th and 11th grades, according to Salesian officials. Several attended a Summer Immersion program in August that included an ESL course to help them adjust to their new life in America, and to strengthen and improve their English skills.

During the summer, they visited museums, scenic places in the Bay Area and toured the UC Berkeley and Stanford campuses.

“Foreign students learn English and experience the benefits of an American education as they prepare for college,” program officials said.” They form strong bonds with their Salesian classmates, develop new friendships, and enrich the social and cultural fabric of the school.  The International Student program is not just a journey of distance and geography, but of self-transformation.”
