23rd Street fight turns fatal

A 52-year-old man was shot dead in Richmond’s Iron Triangle neighborhood shortly after police responded to the scene of a stabbing nearby, police said.

The incident unfolded at 8:11 p.m., when police responded to reports that a man was suffering from stab wounds in the area of 4th Street and Macdonald Avenue, Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill said.

The victim, 31-year-old Demarco Anderson, was being airlifted to the hospital about 8:45 p.m. when an officer at the scene heard multiple gunshots around the corner in the 500 block of 5th Street, Hill said.

Officers responding to the shooting scene found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso. The victim, identified as Anthony Bing, was pronounced dead at the scene, marking the 10th homicide this year in Richmond, Hill said.

The stabbing victim was in critical but stable condition.

No arrests or suspects have been identified and no evidence suggests the incidents are related, Hill said.

In a post on Twitter Thursday, Police Chief Chris Magnus said Wednesday night’s violence was a “reminder we still have lots of work ahead of us. We get that & are utilizing multiple strategies.”

Anyone with information about either incident is urged to contact Sgt. Stina Johanson (510) 620-6616.
