The City of Richmond Recreation Department is encouraging local youths to sign up for fall basketball and flag football programs.
Sign-ups for both programs are happening now.
The city touts its basketball program, available to teens between 9th and 12th grades, as the best fall tune-up league for the winter high school season. Games are played in two public gyms, Tuesdays for girls and Thursdays for boys from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $100 per team for a season that runs from Sept. 23 through Nov. 6.
The city’s NFL Flag Football program occurs Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and includes under-14 and under-12 divisions. The cost is $10 per player and games are played at the Martin Luther King Turf Field, Cutting Boulevard and Marina Way.
As the flyer below states, the flag football program is a fun, non-contact sport that offers both exercise and lessons on teamwork.
