The number of sexual abuse-related charges against ex-Richmond middle school teacher Ron Guinto has nearly tripled – from 27 to 87 – according to an amended complaint that surfaced Monday, the West County Times reported.

Guinto, 32, of Vallejo, was fired from Richmond’s Making Waves Academy in the fall following allegations that he molested several boys ages 11 to 13 in off-campus incidents. Further investigation revealed more incidents, according to the amended complaint that was made public Monday, the Times reported.

Guinto has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The 87 charges involve 13 victims over an 11-year period and include 40 counts of forcible lewd acts upon a child including oral copulation and sodomy, prosecutors said. Alleged offenses occurred in eight different counties and included “such recreational locations at Mt. Diablo State Park, Yosemite National Park and Angel Island State Park,” the newspaper reported.

Guinto’s arrest forced the West Contra Costa Unified School District to amend its hiring policy, as Guinto managed to obtain a teaching job at Mira Vista Elementary School in El Cerrito following his departure from Making Waves Academy. Detectives reportedly sped up their investigation upon learning of the hire and arrested Guinto less than two months after he started the new job, police said.
