Richmond police caught a murder suspect following a freeway pursuit Friday night that ended in Emeryville, police said.

Prior to the chase, 26-year-old Miguel Ortiz, who is wanted in connection with a murder that occurred two weeks ago in San Francisco, was reportedly at a residence on Macdonald Avenue, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abektov said.

San Francisco homicide detectives alerted RPD to Ortiz’s whereabouts and requested assistance. About 5 p.m., Abektov said, Ortiz exited the residence and hopped into the backseat of a vehicle occupied by three women.

A female driver failed to stop for police and fled westbound Interstate 580. The chase proceeded through the heavy evening commute traffic to westbound Interstate 80, and at one point a Richmond patrol car was nicked by the suspect vehicle during an unsafe lane change, Abtetkov said.

No one was injured during the pursuit.
