Richmond native DeNesha Stallworth has signed a professional basketball contract to play with Universitario de Ferrol in Spain this season.

The great news was announced by the University of Kentucky, where Stallworth graduated in December of last year with degrees in family sciences and African-American studies.

“I’m extremely excited for this opportunity to play in Spain,” said Stallworth, an alumnus of Pinole Valley High School. “This season is all about growth for me and playing with veterans will definitely help me. Thanks to the Big Blue Nation for all the support given to me throughout my years at Kentucky. I will always bleed blue!”

Stallworth became one of college basketball’s best post players following two seasons with UK and two with UC Berkeley. She briefly played in the WNBA earlier this year after being chosen as the No. 25 pick by the Connecticut Sun.

She finished her collegiate career with 1,740 career points, 871 rebounds and 15 double-doubles, a mark that ranks ninth on Kentucky’s all-time list, according to UK.
