Richmond police arrested a 32-year-old man on charges that he attempted to shoot a woman inside a home in the 3700 block of Esmond Avenue Wednesday.

The incident unfolded about 1:15 p.m., police said, when the woman went into the home to retrieve some of her belongings. The suspect, who was inside the home, allegedly pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger twice, but the gun didn’t go off, police said. The woman fled without injury and called police.

The suspect, identified as Odafe Omadhebo, fled the home as well, but later returned while police were interviewing witnesses to the shooting, police said. A handgun was recovered in Omadhebo’s car, police said.

The relationship between the man and woman was not immediately clear, police said, but they did know each other.
