Contra Costa Times: Kennedy High predicted to win TCAL Stone division

Senior running back Ernie Timoteo ran for 127 yards on 27 carries to help Kennedy High defeat Drake 17-7 in the Eagles' first game of the season.
You'll see a lot of people wearing this T-shirt around town if Kennedy lives up to its potential.

The Contra Costa Times just published a thorough varsity football preview for the Tri County Athletic League (TCAL).

The newspaper predicts Richmond’s Kennedy High, which finished 4-1 in the division last year and 4-6 overall, to come out on top in the TCAL Stone Division, with Albany coming in second, Berean Christian third, John Swett fourth, Richmond fifth and De Anza sixth.

“If Kennedy can enter division play after its challenging nonleague schedule with a relatively clean bill of health, then it should be the favorites,” the Times said.

In a separate Times report on the Rock Division, St. Mary’s is predicted to surpass El Cerrito for the division title. Salesian is predicted to come in third, followed by Pinole Valley fourth, Hercules fifth, Valley Christian sixth and St. Patrick-st. Vincent seventh.

While El Cerrito graduated key players there remains “plenty of talent,” the Times said.

“Perhaps the biggest threat to El Cerrito’s division dominance is St. Mary’s, which 18 starters, including 10 on defense,” the newspaper wrote.
