CHP: Speeding San Pablo man's weed-scented car leads to cocaine bust

The marijuana smell coming from a San Pablo man’s vehicle that was pulled over for speeding in Oakland led to the seizure of about $6,000 worth of cocaine and $11,000 in cash, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident unfolded about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, when 24-year-old Ivan Torres was pulled over by a CHP officer for exceeding the speed limit in a Chevy Impala on Frontage Road near West Grand Avenue.

The officer smelled pot in the car, according to CHP, leading to a search that allegedly uncovered about $7,000 in cash, 100 grams of cocaine valued at $6,000 and about 27 grams of marijuana.

The discovery led to a search warrant on Torres’ home, where an additional $4,000 in cash and other evidence of drug sales were recovered, CHP said.

Torres faces multiple charges related to drug possession and sales.
