A 24-year-old man who was shot near the intersection of Marina Way and Barrett Avenue in Richmond Thursday night is expected to survive, police said.
The ShotSpotter detection system alerted police to a shooting at the intersection just after 5 p.m., Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said. A witness told responding officers that the man who was shot had been taken by someone to Kaiser Richmond, Abetkov said.
He suffered multiple upper-body gunshot wounds and was flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he underwent surgery.
The shooting led to a police search of the Hacienda housing development, as the shooter reportedly ran toward there. The suspect was not found and no arrests have been made, Abektov said.
The victim was reportedly uncooperative with police and the person who drove him to the hospital had left before cops arrived.
Police do not believe the incident is gang-related, Abetkov said.
