In an ongoing bid to compete with Google’s mapping technology, Microsoft’s Bing Maps team announced Wednesday the launch of “Streetside views” to 64 new cities, including those within Contra Costa County.

In a statement Wednesday, the Microsoft Bing Maps team said it has been “busy driving and flying to bring you more cities to view before you travel.” The company said it recently surpassed the 100-city mark for its streetside imagery.

The company also added 3D maps to 29 new cities, including San Francisco, and announced the addition of high-resolution aerial imagery.

Despite the massive update, Microsoft’s offerings “pales in comparison to Google,” which since its launch in 2007 has added streetview imagery to more than 3,000 cities across 50 countries, according to VentureBeat.
