Data reported by the San Jose Mercury News examining the racial diversity of the Richmond Police Department (RPD) is inaccurate, an RPD official said.

Richmond police officers have developed a positive reputation in recent years for their efforts to get to know community members, but it’s a two-way street.

On Aug. 23, community members have a chance to get to know Richmond cops with a free Ice Cream with a Cop event, which is sponsored by the Richmond Main Street Initiative, Richmond Police Department and Lappert’s Ice Cream.

The entire community is invited to the event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Community Green Space park at Harbour Way & Macdonald Avenue.

“Meet your neighborhood beat officers, learn important crime prevention tips, and enjoy a delicious ice cream treat (while supplies last),” organizers said.
