Plenty of strings attached, but all welcome to free Hilltop Ukulele Lovers Academy

This sounds finger-pickin’ good.

On the second Friday of every month, local residents are encouraged to attend the free Hilltop Ukulele Lovers Academy (HULA), where ukulele players of all skill levels gather to share, sing and learn everything about the instrument.

The group meets from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hilltop YMCA at 4600 Lakeside Drive. Participants don’t have to be members of the YMCA to attend, but must present their ID at the front desk.

“All styles and levels are welcome,” said organizer John Cyr. “Bring an extra ukulele to share if you can.”

“It’s some pretty cool stuff right here in little old Richmond,” Cyr said, adding the academy has been asked to perform at an adult reading program in Richmond in September.
