Two people were injured in a fire at a Richmond apartment complex early Sunday that damaged three units, two heavily, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded just before 4 a.m. to the blaze at a two-story, four-unit residential complex at 5312 McBryde Ave., which is across from the Interstate 80 off-ramp, Richmond Fire Battalion Chief Merlin Turner said.
A woman and man in their 30s to 40s were transported to the hospital with burns. The woman suffered burns to about 40 percent of her body, while the man had burns on his arms, fire officials said. Their conditions were not immediately known, Turner said.
The fire was extinguished and a cause remains under investigation.
Merlin said the building has a history of fires, including one in the past that was fatal.
Red Cross assisted residents who were displaced.
A resident told the Richmond Standard that McBryde between Humboldt and Amador streets was closed Sunday morning due to the fire. Solano and San Pablo Dam Rd. were both open to get past the detour, the resident added.
