A suspected Richmond pimp is being charged with abducting a prostitute last month as she was headed to an interview with a police investigator to discuss his abuse, police said.
Erick Ealy II, 24, of Richmond, was detained at a BART station June 24 and subsequently charged by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office with human trafficking, attempted human trafficking, false imprisonment, kidnapping with injuries, pimping and conspiracy, according to police.
The investigation began June 3 at 2:19 p.m., when police responded to an assault report at an El Cerrito home. A woman told police Ealy was her pimp and had fled the home after attacking her and taking money from her handbag.
“The victim was accused of withholding money by her pimp,” police said. “The suspect then squeezed the victim’s neck, threw her against a wall before taking money from her handbag and leaving.”
The victim went to the police department, was assigned to Community Violence Solutions and given a safe place to stay, police said. She was also scheduled to meet with a detective for a follow up interview.
When the woman missed her interview appointment, a detective began surveillance on the El Cerrito home where the assault had occurred and discovered Ealy was wanted on unrelated outstanding warrants. On June 24, Ealy was arrested after a detective saw him leave the home and then followed him to a BART station.
Following his arrest, the victim finally showed up for her interview.
“During this interview it was discovered the reason the victim had missed her previous interview was because the suspect had abducted her while she was en route to the interview,” police said.
Ealy was booked into jail and held on a $1.6 million bail.
