A man was struck and killed by a BART train in Richmond Friday after witnesses saw him head onto the trackway on his own, authorities said.

The incident, which occurred about 4:30 p.m., closed the Richmond station for more than three hours, and closed the El Cerrito del Norte station for a shorter period, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said.

The man has not yet been identified.
