We’re a little late on this story, but it turns out internationally renowned swimmer Missy Franklin visited the Richmond Plunge earlier this month.
Franklin, who currently attends UC Berkeley, was accompanied by a large film crew that filmed her swimming, apparently for an inspirational movie, according to City Manager Bill Lindsay’s Monday newsletter.
“Missy complemented our lifeguards on the beauty of the pool and the mural,” Lindsay’s newsletter stated. “The large film crew complemented our staff on their helpfulness.”
The crew used a $1 million underwater camera to shoot the scene. The filming was reportedly a success.
We’ve got a call into the Plunge seeking more information on Franklin’s visit, which an employee told us took place July 15. Check back for updates.
It was Franklin’s second recent visit to West Contra Costa County. In June, she played with the children of San Pablo’s Bayview Elementary School during recess as part of Playworks, a nonprofit offering productive recess activities to schools serving low-income students.
Lindsay’s newsletter published a few pictures of her visit:
