The City of Richmond Office of Emergency Service is offering local residents free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training beginning Aug. 28.

The City of Richmond Office of Emergency Service is offering local residents free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training beginning Aug. 28.

The 8-week class, which meets Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., offers emergency training that can help residents prepare for and overcome a disaster. Participants must attend all classes in order to receive a certificate of completion, but are able to make up classes.

Classes are held at the Richmond Fire Training Center at 3506 Cutting Blvd. Seats are limited so sign up ASAP here.

Class 1: CERT Introduction 8/28

Class 2: Fire Suppression/Utility 9/4

Class 3: Disaster Medical 1  9/11

Class 4: Disaster Medical 2  9/18

Class 5: Search & Rescue 9/25

Class 6: CERT Organization 10/2

Class 7: Disaster Psychology 10/9

Class 8: Terrorism Awareness & Drill Preparation 10/16
