A man told police he was trying to use free Wi-Fi outside an Iron Triangle home when he was shot Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to the 600 block of 5th St. about 12:15 p.m. following a Shotspotter activation and found two cars and a home struck by gunfire, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

The only victim of the shooting left the scene before police arrived. He showed up at a local hospital four hours after the incident, Abetkov said. A bullet had grazed his hip.

Shortly after the shooting, a suspect was located in North Richmond. Robert Matlock Jr., 28, was pulled over while driving a white 1999 Chevy Cavalier, which matched the description of the car used in the shooting, Abetkov said. Matlock Jr. was booked on suspicion of firing into an inhabited dwelling.

The victim told police he doesn’t think he was the intended target.
