Star swimmer Missy Franklin hung out with the students of Bayview Elementary School in San Pablo during recess Tuesday.

Franklin came with Playworks, a national nonprofit that provide healthy, fun and productive recesses at schools serving low-income families. Playworks has an ongoing partnership with the West Contra Costa Unified School District.

“They offer a positive environment for kids,” said Marcus Walton, spokesman for the school district. “They brought [Franklin] by to play with the kids, and to encourage them to live healthy, active lifestyles and to focus on doing well in the classroom.”
