The new Elm Playlot at 720 Elm Avenue in Richmond’s Iron Triangle opens today for summer play.

The playground will be staffed from 9 a.m. to  5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, according to Pogo Park, the nonprofit that transformed the once rarely used park into a paradise of fun for families.

“Kids can play freely on our zipline, ball wall, disc swings, and more,” staff said Monday. “Staff will also oversee structured play activities such as dodge ball and treasure hunts, and will provide materials for arts and crafts. Kids up to 18 will be served free, healthy lunches from noon-1 p.m., and healthy snacks from 2-3 p.m.”

The photos posted within this story were taken Monday while the Pogo Park staff and volunteers prepared the playground for today’s opening.

The Pogo Park staff went wrist-deep, forming structures to test the fresh sand.

Pogo Park also said it will continue to add to the park’s design throughout the summer with the help of local children.
