Parking fees are set to increase at many BART stations by 50 cents next month, but not in Richmond.
These days, the transit agency has been evaluating prices every six months, adjusting up or down by 50 cents according to the station’s capacity. So If the lot at a station is full, the fee goes up 50 cents, and if the lot is less than 95-percent full, the fee may decrease by 50 cents. It can’t go up by more than $3 at any station except for West Oakland.
Starting July 14, BART’s Richmond station will remain at $1, while increases have been set at Bay Fair ($2), Fremont ($2.50), Fruitvale ($2.50), Lafayette ($2.50), Lake Merritt ($2.50), Orinda ($2.50), Pittsburg/Bay Point ($2.50), Pleasant Hill ($2.50), Rockridge ($2.50), San Leandro ($2.50), Union City ($2.50), Walnut Creek ($2.50).
Starting July 28, the fare will increase by 50 cents at Ashby ($2.50), Castro Valley ($2.50), Dublin/Pleasanton ($2.50), El Cerrito Del Norte ($2.50), El Cerrito Plaza ($2.50), Glen Park ($2.50), MacArthur ($2.50), North Berkeley ($2.50), San Bruno ($2.50), West Dublin/Pleasanton ($2.50), and West Oakland ($6.50),
Colma ($2.50), Millbrae ($2), South Hayward ($1) and South San Francisco ($2) join Richmond station in not seeing price hikes.
Oakland connector fare set by BART board
This week, the BART board of directors set the fare for the extension between the Coliseum Station and Oakland International Airport (OAK) at $6.00, while leaving open the possibility that temporary promotional fares could be introduced in the future.
Seniors, people with disabilities and children age 12 and under will be eligible for BART’s 62.5-percent discount. BART staff plans to recommend at a later board meeting that airport employees continue to pay a discounted fare of $2.00 for the trip on the new service.
Service on the new 3.2-mile driver-less guideway, which will replace the the AirBART shuttle buses, is expected to reduce average travel and wait time, provide more frequent service and increase passenger capacity, the transit agency said.
