El Cerrito police are hunting for a man who reportedly punched an 89-year-old woman during a carjacking last weekend outside a CVS store on San Pablo Avenue.
Police responded about 1:55 p.m. Sunday to the CVS store at 10650 San Pablo Ave. and found the elderly woman lying on the ground. The woman had gone to the store to pick up her medications and was attacked when she returned to her car, police said.
“He punched the woman and literally pulled her from her car, then drove away in her Toyota Camry,” police said.
The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries to her face and torso, including a broken collar bone and ribs. She is expected to survive.
Based on a description provided by a witness, an El Cerrito cop was able to identify the suspect as 28-year-old parolee Terrance James Hardy, described as a black man standing about 5-7 and weighing 170 pounds. He has a warrant out for his arrest on charges of carjacking and elder abuse causing great bodily injury.
The woman’s vehicle, which is still missing, is a white 1992 Toyota Camry, license plate 2ZNR291.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Hardy or the vehicle is asked to notify law enforcement immediately at (510) 215-4400, or leave an anonymous message at (510) 215-4414 ext. 40.
“Due to the violence of the assault, the suspect is considered dangerous,” police said.
