The driver of a big rig that toppled over on Richmond Parkway Monday afternoon, crushing cars it had been hauling on a trailer, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of prescription narcotics, police said.
The incident unfolded around 12:30 p.m. when the big rig rolled over onto its left side at N. Castro and W. Hensley streets, police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said. No other vehicles were involved and the truck driver was not injured.
“The truck was carrying a trailer of crushed cars,” Abetkov said. “The road was closed for about an hour and a half.”
The truck driver not only failed field sobriety tests at the scene, he was driving on a suspended license, Abetkov said.
The driver’s name and place of employment were not immediately available.
