Time to get fit and full!

On Wednesday, the West Contra Costa Unified School District’s Food Services Department will host its 21st annual Nutrition, Health and Fitness Festival at Lake Elementary School in San Pablo.

The event, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., aims to encourage families to adopt healthy lifestyles and curb the alarming trend of child obesity. The theme for this year’s event is “Cooking it up fresh and healthy with fruits and vegetables for wellness.”

This year will feature two healthy cooking segments for students, a fun wellness performance from the “Kaiser Cardia Heart,” and also a farmer’s market tour and taste testing. After eating all that healthy food, young ones will be able to work it off through various physical activities including Zumba, a restaurant relay, power volleyball, spin the wheel of nutrition and more.

“There is no question that good nutrition and fitness will improve children’s learning ability to achieve their full potential,” school district officials said in a statement.

Lake Elementary School is located at 2700 11th St. in San Pablo.  For further information, contact Barbara Jellison, Director of Food Services Department, West Contra Costa Unified School District at (510) 307 – 4580.
