A thief posing as a customer pepper-sprayed an employee at Hilltop Mall Wednesday and ran off with more than $25,000 in diamond jewelry, police said.

About 11:30 a.m., a woman employee at the Sears jewelry counter said she was helping the man when he sprayed her and fled with more than 10 jewelry items. The combined value of the pieces is between $25,000 and $50,000, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

No arrests have been made.

Further information on the heist such as a description of the robber wasn’t immediately available.
