A man who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train at a busy Richmond intersection on Saturday had been walking with a cane, which may have gotten stuck on the railroad tracks, police said.

The man, who hasn’t been identified, was walking alongside a woman shortly before 2 p.m. in the area of Cutting and Carlson boulevards, Lt. Andre Hill said.

Police were searching for the woman Saturday, as she reportedly left the scene before officers arrived.

The incident remains under investigation, Hill said.
