Kennedy High School was briefly placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after a 14-year-old student was shot in the leg off-campus, police said.

The shooting apparently occurred about 8:30 a.m. in or near John F. Kennedy Park at S. 41st St. and Cutting Blvd, which is across the street from the school, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

The student reportedly ran to the school’s principal’s office after being shot, police said. He injuries were not life threatening.

No arrests have been made.

Investigators say it is possible that a fight in the park preceded the gunfire, but police were initially having trouble getting anyone to provide information about the incident.

Approximate location of shooting.
