A 56-year-old man is accused of trying to shoplift $4,000 worth of merchandise from Home Depot on Wednesday, according to the Richmond Police Department.

About 8:40 p.m., loss prevention security personnel followed the suspect, Keith Hill, out of the store at 11939 San Pablo Ave. and detained him in the parking lot on the belief that he had stolen items, Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said Thursday.

The sergeant did not immediately know which items Hill was accused of stealing, but was told their worth totaled about $4,000.

Hill admitted to the theft, Abetkov said, adding he also mentioned having prior convictions for theft.

He was booked into jail on a commercial burglary charge.
