For the moms of young children, sometimes the best possible gift is to have someone else keep the little ones occupied for a few hours.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Hilltop Mall on Saturday, volunteers with the Richmond Art Center will be in the JC Penney Court (lower level) to offer a free crafts session for children.

The kids will get a chance to make something special in honor of their mother.  They can “sew a coaster or bookmark with quilters Fern Royce and Catherine Durand (Textile Mavens), or create a paper treasure box using designs by Lisa di Prima,” organizers said.

While mothers of children under age 10 need to be present, they can at least sit back and relax while their kids have fun.
