A woman was killed after the vehicle she was driving on Richmond Parkway Tuesday night collided with a telephone pole and knocked out power for hundreds of homes and businesses, police said.

The woman, who hasn’t yet been identified, was driving a green Ford Mustang at high speeds north on Garrard Boulevard past West Macdonald Avenue when she lost control of the vehicle about 9:30 p.m., police said.

The Mustang left the roadway and slid broadside into the pole, killing the vehicle’s sole passenger. The crash knocked out power for more than 740 homes and businesses, a PG&E spokeswoman reported. Most customers had their power back before midnight.
