The City of Richmond is encouraging residents to take part in Bike to Work Day 2014 on Thursday.

From 7 a.m. to 9 a.m, cyclists are encouraged to stop at one of four Energizer Stations along key bicycle routes in Richmond and pick up a special Bike to Work Day bag, refreshments, and other prizes.

Energizer Station locations include:

  • Richmond BART
  • Richmond Greenway (Harbour & Ohio)
  • Marina Bay Park (Marina Bay & Regatta)
  • San Pablo Ave. and Macdonald Ave.

This year’s celebration is especially sweet, since last year Richmond reportedly had the largest cycling ridership increase in the East Bay.

“We are looking to build on those great numbers,” the city said.

The purpose of Bike to Work Day events is to raise awareness about the cost and health benefits of cycling. The city partnered to promote this year’s event with Bike East Bay, 511 Contra Costa, SunPower, Building Blocks for Kids and Richmond City Rides.
