23rd Street fight turns fatal

The West County Times‘ ongoing investigation into why homicides in North Richmond often go unsolved resulted in another important article published Tuesday.

In an interview with the Times, Ken Westermann, president of the Contra Costa Deputy Sheriff’s Association, said people at North Richmond murder scenes are often uncooperative and hostile and at times have thrown objects at officers and investigators. Also, Sheriff David Livingston blamed inadequate funding for public safety.

There’s a lot more to this story. For more details, including perspectives from Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia and the Richmond Police Department’s chief, read the Times article.
