The Oakland A’s are reportedly funding the renovation of the rundown baseball field at Richmond’s Martin Luther King Jr Park.

The renovation of the ball field near Harbour Way and Cutting Boulevard is slated to begin May 1, with a grand opening scheduled for later that month, according to City Manager Bill Lindsay.

A grant application for the rebuild was submitted by the Richmond Community Foundation, in partnership with the city of Richmond, and was approved last week, Lindsay said in his weekly newsletter.

The A’s, along with the charitable organization Good Tidings Foundation, will undertake the renovation.

The Good Tidings Foundation partners will professional sports franchises, businesses and agencies Bay Area-wide to fund, design and build projects that are supported by school districts, recreation departments and city governments.

“We will keep you informed as this project moves forward,” Lindsay said.
