The gym at the YMCA in Richmond’s Coronado neighborhood has been refurbished with help from a $10,000 gift from The Coca-Cola Company, according to the nonprofit For Richmond.

A grant from the Centers for Disease Control – identified by Don Lau, the vice president of the West Contra Costa YMCA and also For Richmond’s steering committee chair – also helped pay for the $17,000 renovation of the YMCA on South 20th Street.

The idea to shape up the gym came last year when the YMCA wanted to increase the community’s access to places for physical activity.

A Coca-Cola official was “dumbstruck” by the condition of the YMCA gym floor and saw the need for improvements, according to For Richmond.

You can check out the new gym today between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., during the Healthy Kids Day event.

Make sure to read the full For Richmond article on the new gym.
