Victims of shooting in parking lot near Richmond Target expected to survive

23rd Street fight turns fatal

Both victims of a broad-daylight shooting in the Target store parking lot in Richmond on Tuesday – including a 17-year-old boy – are expected to survive, police said Wednesday.

Police were searching for surveillance footage in connection with the incident that occurred about 5:40 p.m in the parking lot of the shopping center in the 4200 block of Macdonald Ave., Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

Officers found evidence of a shooting when they arrived at the scene, but not victims. Shortly after, officials at Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo reported that two gunshot wound victims, both males, showed up in the ER, Abetkov said.

The 17-year-old was reportedly in critical condition and flown to John Muir Medical Center. His condition has since been upgraded to stable, Abetkov said.

The second victim, whose age wasn’t immediately known, was treated and released from John Muir on Tuesday night.

“The detectives are conducting follow up [Wednesday] and are still trying to get an idea of what happened,” Abetkov said.

Police Chief Chris Magnus called the shooting “brazen” and posted this on RPD’s Facebook page Wednesday:
