Richmond police are searching for 30-year-old Melinda Gaffney, who is accused of fatally shooting 16-year-old Terrance Forks Tuesday night after an argument near the Crescent Park Apartments complex.

A $1 million warrant has been issued for the Richmond woman’s arrest, and a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to her capture.

The shooting occurred about 10:20 p.m. in the 3900 block of Fleming Avenue, where responding police found Forks lying on the ground suffering from a bullet wound, police spokeswoman Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by emergency personnel to revive him, Abetkov said.

Witnesses said Gaffney took off after the shooting in a white 1999 Lexus with tinted windows. Police have recovered the Lexus, but not the murder weapon, Abetkov said.

A large crowd that formed after the shooting also drew a large police presence, as officers from El Cerrito and San Pablo were called to monitor the scene.

The homicide was the city’s third of 2014.
